A chief and his father-in-law who had been allegedly abducted seven months ago have finally been released.

The senior chief of Fino Location Mohamed Bulle was abducted by suspected Al Shabaab militants from a lodge in Lafey, Mandera County on August 27, 2021.

His father-in-law was also kidnapped two weeks after he was reported missing.

The duo was released in Lamu County and are currently admitted at a hospital in Nairobi County.

“The senior chief of Fino Mohamed Bulle who was abducted by unknown assailants suspected to be Al Shabaab on August 27, 2021, was released in Lamu alongside his father in law who was also kidnapped two weeks after the chief,” police said in a statement.

Speaking to K24 Digital, Bulle said that he will give a statement about what they went through after he leaves the hospital.

Mandera County has seen an upsurge on matters linked to terrorism.

Four days ago, Mohamed Abdi Ahmed, the Assistant Chief of Omar Jilicow Sub-Location within Mandera County, was killed at the Hargasu area as he rode on his official motorbike heading home.

A senior police officer who spoke to K24 Digital, on condition of anonymity since he is not authorized to address the media, said that they were treating the matter as a terror attack.

“The matter is being treated as an act of terror and already officers are pursuing leads that will see the attackers captured,” our source said.

According to the family, the chief was employed on July 9, 2019, and had only worked for two years.
