A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 60-year-old mother in Nakuru County.

Nicholas Kipkirui is alleged to hit his mother, Catherine Chebole, on the head with a rungu (club) over an unknown dispute.

“Early morning we received information that the son had killed her mother after hitting her with the rungu on the head after cutting her,” Keriethe Ndigirigi, Waseges MCA.

The man is locked up at Subukia Police Station while the body of the woman has been taken to Nyahururu Hospital mortuary.

Shocked residents expressed concern over the murder, saying the crime rate in the region is rising as many youths are indulging in drug abuse.

“We want the county government and the national government to step up the fight against illicit brews in the area,”, said Mr. Ndigirigi.
