Makau Mutua, a constitutional and political advisor to President William Ruto, on Friday, September 12, 2025, called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those who planned, financed, and pulled the trigger on lawyer Kyalo Mbobu in Karen earlier in the week.

Through his social handles on X and Facebook, an agitated Mutua said the gangland execution of the prominent lawyer was unfortunate.

He went on to say that such violence cannot be allowed to happen in a democratic country like Kenya, stressing that perpetrators must be sanctioned without pity.

The gangland execution of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu is a savage affront to our collective humanity as Kenyans. The perpetrators must be arrested immediately and sanctioned without pity. A democratic civilisation can’t allow this mafiosi savagery @DCI_Kenya @ODPP_KE @NPSOfficial_KE @IG_NPS @AGOfficeKenya,” Mutua wrote, emphasising the urgent need for justice.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) described the incident as a possible premeditated assassination, urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to act swiftly in tracking down the killers.

LSK President Faith Odhiambo highlighted Mbobu’s remarkable contributions as Chairman of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal, a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, and a scholar in evidence law.

“His service to the country leaves an indelible mark on his legacy. May his soul rest in peace,” she said, warning that unchecked insecurity threatens Kenya’s democratic foundations.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has ordered the Inspector General of Police to submit a comprehensive report within seven days on the murder.

Investigators have been tasked with fast-tracking evidence collection to ensure accountability and reassure the public that justice will be delivered.

Eyewitnesses and community cooperation are now considered crucial in piecing together the events of that fateful day. The DPP and DCI have called on anyone with information to come forward without delay.

Mbobu’s death, a tragic loss for Kenya’s legal and governance community, has sparked nationwide outrage and renewed calls for stronger protection for legal practitioners.

As investigations intensify, Kenyans await decisive action against those responsible, while Mutua and the legal fraternity insist that no stone should be left unturned in delivering justice.

The swift arrest of Kyalo Mbobu’s killers is now not just a demand but a test of Kenya’s commitment to the rule of law, the safety of advocates, and democratic principles.
