Late Nyeri governor Gachagua’s widow mourns Raila at Opoda farm
Mama Margaret Nyokabi, the spouse of the first and late Nyeri County Governor Nderitu Gachagua, alongside her daughter Mercy, has paid homage to the home of the late Raila Odinga in Bondo, Siaya.
Through a post via its X handle, the Orange Democratic Movement Party on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, acknowledged receiving Nyokabi at Opoda farm.

Nderitu Gachagua in Bondo
“Widow of the 1st Governor of Nyeri County, the late Hon. Nderitu Gachagu, Mama Margaret Nyokabi and her daughter, Mercy, were at Opoda farm in Bondo today to give pole to Mama Ida Odinga and family following the passing of Baba Raila Odinga on the 15th of this month,” the party wrote on X.
During the visit to Bondo, and to be specific, Opoda farm, where the late Raila Odinga was laid to rest, Nyokabi paid her last respect to a man who stood for democracy and sacrificed a lot for the great country called Kenya.
That notwithstanding, the visit by Nderitu Gachagua’s spouse to Bondo comes just a week after the ODM Party in a presser stated that it did not want anything to do with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who is the brother of the late Governor of Nyeri.
Wanga’s attack on Gachagua
In its message, the party via Wanga accused Gachagua of funding and sponsoring Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga to celebrate the death of Raila Odinga and stated that the party has nothing to do with people who are always longing for tribal politics.

“What I know is that Kahiga does not speak for himself. Kahiga is the Spokesperson of Rigathi Gachagua.
“Rigathi Gachagua mocked Raila’s illness and asked whether he was a virus and whether Kalonzo was a bacterium.
“To date, Rigathi Gachagua has yet to mourn Raila, who braved political tensions to go mourn his brother, the late Nderitu Gachagua,” Wanga said.
Later, the Nyeri Governor issued an apology and resigned from the position of vice chair of the Council of Governors.
