CNN international correspondent and host, Larry Madowo, has now claimed that a Nairobi politician hired goons to attack him while covering the protests in the city.

Sharing a video on his social media handles, the vocal journalist stated that the unnamed politician offered a token to the goons in case they succeeded in disrupting him from reporting on the happenings during the Nairobi demos.

Larry further claimed that pro-government voices are pushing for his arrest.

“A Nairobi politician offered paid goons a bonus if they attacked me while covering protests. Pro-government voices are calling for me to be arrested. But I will not be intimidated,” Larry Madowo posted on Facebook

Madowo has also accused a Nairobi politician of paying hired goons an extra Ksh100,000 if they attack him.

Besides the plans to attack him, beat him up, and smash his equipment, he also highlighted the government accounts on social media and another lawmaker who has called for his arrest for supposedly inciting violence.

Nonetheless, the journalist has vowed that he will not be intimidated by anyone.

Covering protests

Larry Madowo has not only been covering the ongoing protests in the country but also criticising the law enforcement department for using force while handling demonstrators in the country.

Since the Gen-Z-led protests in 2024 and further demos in 2025, Larry has been on the streets documenting everything.

On June 25, 2025, Larry Madowo had to book a last-minute flight to cover the protests, which turned chaotic and led to massive destruction of property and looting.

He has also been in the spotlight for a beef with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. The two have been engaging in a war of words on social media concerning several issues.

Recently, the CNN correspondent exposed the state of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). He particularly pointed out the regular blackouts and leaking roofs at Kenya’s largest airport.

Despite numerous attacks from some officials, Larry Madowo has vowed to cover everything objectively.
