Kyalo Mbobu killing: Lawyers stage peaceful march to police HQs
A group of lawyers in unison on Friday, September 12, 2025, staged a peaceful march against the assassination of the late Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu in Karen earlier in the week.
The procession began at Milimani Law Courts, moved through Kenyatta Avenue, en route to the Town House building, where the late lawyer had an office, before culminating at Jogoo House, also known as Vigilance House, which hosts Police Headquarters.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) had announced plans to hold a Purple Ribbon March to protest the brutal killing of Mbobu.

Demand for justice
In a statement on Thursday, September 11, 2025, LSK President Faith Odhiambo called on lawyers, members of the public, and human rights defenders to join the procession in solidarity as the legal fraternity demanded accountability for Mbobu’s death.
“The Law Society of Kenya will hold a Purple Ribbon March tomorrow in protest of the brutal assassination of Senior Kyalo Mbobu. We invite all members of the Society and the general public to stand in solidarity as we demand justice,” Odhiambo said.

Marchers carried purple ribbons, banners, and placards calling for the immediate arrest of Mbobu’s killers.
Their chants echoed through the streets of Nairobi CBD, drawing attention from passersby, motorists, and the media.

Many legal practitioners described the march as a firm statement that the legal community will not remain silent in the face of targeted attacks on advocates.
Kyalo Mbobu’s death aftermath
According to autopsy reports, the late lawyer Kyalo Mbobu was shot eight times by assailants.
CCTV footage captured a suspicious man making a phone call just outside Mbobu’s office, where his car was parked.
He was later shot along Magadi Road, highlighting the premeditated nature of the assassination.
The LSK described the killing as a direct threat to Kenya’s democratic foundations.
“Too often, advocates have been victimised and targeted for the work they do. This incident and other acts of violence against advocates represent a damning test to the administration of justice,” Odhiambo said, urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to act swiftly in tracking down those responsible.
