The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, announced a planned power blackout that will affect at least seven counties across the Rift Valley, Mt Kenya and the Northeastern regions.

KPLC said that customers living in the listed areas should plan accordingly, noting that the outage will take place on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, for purposes of scheduled maintenance.

“Good evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (3rd September 2025). We regret any inconvenience that may be caused during the operations,” KPLC said in its notice.

Areas in Mt Kenya region

In Kirinyaga County, the blackout will affect Sagana Town and its environs, including KPCU Sagana, Sagana Health Centre, Chakaka Hotel, Royal Millers, NCPB Sagana, Lower Sagana Primary, Kirinyaga High School, Sagana Tanneries, and Sagana Fisheries.

In Nyeri County, the affected areas include Gathambo TBC, Gaturumo-ini TBC, Kiamigwi Primary School, Gitima-ini Village, and surrounding Safaricom and Airtel boosters.

In Murang’a County, the outage will impact customers served by the Kandara Feeder, including St Charles Lwanga, Mukoe Market, Githaiti C/Factory, and Githuya Centre.

Parts of Kitui County, including Masyungwa Market, Kathiani Market, Kalimbui Market, Katumbi, Mulangoni, Masyungwa, Miramba Ikamba, Mwarangeni, and Mamamalia Academy, will also be without power between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.

In Narok County, parts of the Maasai Mara, including Nkoilale Market, Sekenani Market, and Talek Market, will be affected from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

In Elgeyo Marakwet County, the blackout will affect Tot, Chesongoch, and Chesoi Market, including Kipsaiya Primary, Sambirir Girls, Sambalat Market, and Soko Bora, between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm.

In Nandi County, areas to be affected include Kamarich Primary, Kipkenyo Centre, Kaboi, and surrounding customers, with the outage scheduled from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

KPLC said the maintenance exercise is aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of power supply across the country. The utility company further appealed to customers in the affected areas to treat all power lines as live during the outage.
