The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General, Dr. Davji Atella, has issued fresh details on the ongoing Kiambu doctors strike as the strike enters day 80.

“Led by the Majority Leader of the National Assembly, we held a comprehensive meeting yesterday with MPs from Kiambu County to discuss the dire state of healthcare, which is now on the brink of total collapse,” Davji noted.
The KMPDU Secretary General noted that the major unaddressed issues by the Kiambu County Government include Victimisation and intimidation of healthcare workers.
“We remain on a protected strike, and we will not return to work until every single issue is addressed and an end to the victimisation and intimidation of healthcare workers. We are not just fighting for ourselves, we are fighting for the future of healthcare in Kiambu and across Kenya,” KMPDU boss wrote.
During the meet-up with the Members of Parliament, Daviji noted that the Union laid out a full picture of what is going on within the County hospitals.
On his part, he noted that the hospitals do not have essential medicines, overworked staff, neglected facilities, as well as other deep frustrations with the County Government of Kiambu. He also added, “We made it clear: urgent intervention is not optional, it is a matter of life and death,” KMPDU boss.

Kiambu doctors’ strike at the 80th day
Meanwhile, as the protest march in a stand off now entering its 80th day, Davji has revealed that the Union has welcomed dialogue and honoured the agreements in good faith.
“Today marks Day 80 of the ongoing doctors’ strike in Kiambu. This is not a decision taken lightly. We have been patient, we have engaged in dialogue, and we have honoured agreements in good faith,” Davji wrote.
On his part, the KMPDU boss accused the County leadership of ignoring court orders while stating that the County Government is gumming up the lives of Kiambu residents.
“Yet the county leadership has chosen to ignore court orders, disregard the CBA, and gamble with the lives of Kiambu residents. Next week, we begin a series of demonstrations to amplify our call,” he wrote.
Likewise, the KMPDU boss has stated that the Doctors’ strikes are not in regard to salaries or promotions while calling on the Kiambu County Government to focus on ensuring Kiambu residents to quality healthcare.
“Our strike is not just about salaries or promotions; it is about the right of every Kiambu resident to access quality, timely, and dignified healthcare. When dealing with rogue leadership, there is no standard formula,” he noted.
