The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has strongly defended the ongoing doctors’ strike in Kiambu County, declaring it legal and morally justified in light of what it describes as sustained neglect and abuse by the county administration.

The statement reflects growing frustration among health workers in the region, who accuse the county of ignoring their basic rights and welfare.

The union said the strike will continue unless concrete actions are taken to address their demands.

In a fiery statement released on its X account on Friday, July 25, 2025, the union condemned the Kiambu County government for failing to address long-standing grievances by healthcare workers, including delayed promotions, inadequate medical insurance, and persistent threats of dismissal and intimidation.

“The Kiambu doctors’ strike is legal, and the reasons are clear: delayed promotions, poor medical insurance, disregard for the court-affirmed right to strike, and sustained threats of dismissal and intimidation,” the statement read.

KMPDU accused the county leadership of systemic failures and warned that the ongoing impasse is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of mismanagement and disdain for health workers.

“These are not isolated failures. They expose a pattern of contempt, neglect, and abuse by a county administration unfit to lead,” the union charged, pointing to a collapse in trust between the medical fraternity and county leadership.

The union also emphasised its resolve to continue advocating for doctors’ rights, saying the era of silence and submission is over. “There are no kings in Kiambu and so we shall bow to none,” the statement defiantly declared.

In addition to supporting the strike, KMPDU revealed that it had taken formal action by submitting petitions to both the Kiambu County Assembly and the Governor’s Office, signalling escalating pressure on the county administration.

“This is no appeal. It is an indictment. Kiambu doctors are not pleading. They are petitioning, for we will not tolerate a careless administration,” the union stated.

KMPDU reaffirmed its commitment to defend its members against intimidation and to demand accountability from county governments across the country.

“As KMPDU, we know that tyranny thrives on silence, so we keep raising our voices, and we are not stopping at that!” read the statement.
