Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has been released unconditionally from Oyugis Police Station.

Maangi was arrested on Monday at the Kisii High School over alleged plans to cause chaos at the funeral service of Mzee Simeon Nyachae at Gusii Stadium.

The DG was seized moments just before Deputy President William Ruto’s chopper landed at the Kisii School.

Shortly after his arrest, police also seized another ally, South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro over the same alleged plot with security officers not taking any chances for leaders out to create disturbance at the event attended by top national leaders.

Among those who attended the funeral were President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.

Osoro spent the night at Keroka Police Station after plainclothes police officers who were pretending to be his supporters lured from the Gusii Stadium into a trap, leading to his arrest.

The two were not the only pro-Ruto men to have beee arrested during the police round-ups.

Samuel Omwando, the defunct Kisii Municipal Council mayor, was the first to be arrested a day earlier after police learnt that the Ruto camp had mobilised and ferried hundreds of supporters to welcome DP at Kisii School grounds.
