The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has accused the Kenya Kwanza regime of having a hand in the recent deaths at Kware in Mukuru slums, Nairobi.

In a post shared on Friday, July 12, 2024, KHRC made damning revelations that someone needed to be held accountable on the bodies which had been heavily mutilated.

“Some of the bodies retrieved from a quarry in Mukuru, Embakasi South, today were mutilated. Kenya Kwanza regime, led by @WilliamsRuto, must take accountability for this heinous crime,” KHRC noted.

The commission’s statement comes weeks after it outlined a list of Kenyans who had died and injured during recent protests.

On June 26, 2024, a similar request was made by the commission to President William Ruto requesting him to accept responsibility for the violence that occurred as Kenyan youth peacefully protested.

“Responsibility for these killings lies squarely with Ruto, even though he was not present on the street. He cannot escape accountability. Adamson Bungei, the immediate former Nairobi police commander, is equally liable,” KHRC remarked.

“Ruto has overseen a planned and executable massacre against peaceful protesters who came out across the country to protest the punitive Finance Bill, 2024.”

Kenyans injured in protests

On Thursday, July 4, 2024, KHRC said it had confirmed the deaths of 41 people and over 360 injuries mostly attributed to police action.

KHRC outlined that 627 people had been arrested during the protests.

On July 1, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) placed the number of deaths at 39.

The commission said 361 were injured during the countrywide anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.

KNCHR said the deceased victims were from Nairobi (17), Nakuru (3) Laikipia (1), Narok (1),  Kajiado (3), Uasin Gishu (4) Kakamega (1) Kisumu (2), Kisii (1), Mombasa (3), Siaya (1), Kiambu (1) and Nandi (1).

Bodies retrieved at Kware

According to a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, six bodies had been recovered from an abandoned quarry in Kware.

In addition, the DCI found that all six bodies were female and they had all been murdered in the same way. Further, the Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin, revealed that the bodies were severely mutilated and in various stages of decomposition.

“Earlier today at approximately 1100hrs, the Embakasi Division Police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) responded to an urgent call from the public in the Villa area of Mukuru kwa Njenga.”

“The alarm was raised following the discovery of six severely mutilated bodies, all female, in various stages of decomposition,” Amin noted.
