Kenya Power: Outage to hit over 20 areas in Nairobi, Embu on August 2
By Aloys Michael, August 1, 2025Kenya Power has issued a public notice informing customers in select areas of Nairobi and Embu County of a scheduled electricity outage on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
This marks one of several planned upgrades under the utility’s infrastructure improvement agenda for 2025.
The planned maintenance will begin in the morning and continue through the afternoon, affecting both residential and commercial users.
In Nairobi County, the power interruption will affect parts of Karen, specifically along Bogani Road and surrounding areas. The outage will last from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with areas affected including Kwarara, parts of Ndege Road, Bogani Road, Kumbe Road, Kuro Road, Kasuku Close, Masai Lane, Ndege Gardens, Ndalat Road, Langata South Road, Bogani Park, Dempster, and nearby customers.
The power transmitting company emphasised the importance of these outages.
“The maintenance work is part of our ongoing efforts to improve the reliability of electricity supply by upgrading the distribution network,” the utility company said in a statement.

Embu County
In the Mt. Kenya Region, parts of Embu County will also experience a full-day blackout from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The affected areas include Murue Coffee Factory, Muchagori, Kavutiri, Kathande, Kamugere, Kianjokoma Market, Mungania TBC, Gituara Coffee Factory, Kenga, Kiriari Girls, Kithunguriri, Karau Hospital, and adjacent customers.
It has urged residents and businesses in the affected regions to prepare in advance for the temporary disruption.
“We request our customers to make the necessary arrangements, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused,” the company added.
While the maintenance is routine, the timing on a Saturday, August 2, 2025, may disrupt weekend plans for many. Small business owners and hospitals have been advised to have backup power sources in place. Kenya Power assured that the maintenance work is essential and will contribute to a more stable and consistent power supply in the long term.
“We appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding as we work to enhance service delivery,” the statement said.
The utility firm advised customers to treat all power lines as live during the blackout period and to report any incidents via their customer service hotline or mobile app.
