Kenya Power: Blackout to hit parts of 8 counties on August 5

Kenya Power has issued a public notice warning of planned power outages across multiple regions on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

The utility company said the outages are part of scheduled maintenance works aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of the electricity network and infrastructure upgrades.

 In the Nairobi region, residents of Zimmerman, Githurai 44, Maziwa, Kahawa West, Kamuthi Farmers, and Kamae will experience power interruptions from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Adjacent customers in the affected areas should also prepare for temporary disconnection.

Additionally, parts of Lavington will also be affected. Areas listed include Olenguruone Road, Mageta Road, Mugumo Road, Lavington Shopping Centre, Isaac Gathanju, Narid Merali, Maaji Mazuri, Muhoya Road, Gitanga Road, Jacaranda Road, Vanga Road, Msanduku Lane, Mbaazi Avenue, Othaya Road, and Muthangari.

“This maintenance work is necessary to ensure a stable and reliable power supply. We regret any inconvenience caused and request customers to treat all lines as live during the interruption,” Kenya Power said in the statement released in its X account on Monday, August 4, 2025.

Kajiado County

In Kajiado County, customers along Church Road in Matasia, including Ole Motondo, Green Castle, Tumaini, and Quick Mart, will also be affected by the day-long blackout.

In Kitengela, residents of Milimani, Old Namanga Road, Air View, Kwa Mohammed, Thorn Grove, Capitol Hill, Ken Pipe, and nearby estates will also face blackouts.

In the North Rift, Mugundoi, Kipkenyo, and Kamarich in Nandi County are expected to experience power loss between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. due to maintenance work on local distribution lines.

South Nyanza will see one of the most extensive outages. Nearly all of Homa Bay Town and surrounding areas, including Ogandi, Rangwe, Asumbi, Olare Market, Pap Ndege, God Bondo, Nyangweso Market, and Homahills, will be without power for most of the day.

Different areas in Mombasa and Kwale County will also be hit by the planned power outage on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

Kenya Power advised customers in the affected zones to make necessary arrangements and remain cautious. “We urge all customers to treat electricity lines as live at all times and exercise safety,” the statement added.

The company has committed to restoring power promptly upon completion of the scheduled works.
