Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions across multiple regions on Friday, August 1, 2025, as part of its routine maintenance programme aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply.

In a statement released on the X account on Thursday, July 31, 2025, the utility said the scheduled outage will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in most affected areas, with Nyeri County experiencing an earlier start at 8:00 a.m.

“These maintenance works are necessary to improve service delivery and ensure stability in power distribution,” the statement read.

In the Nairobi Region, the outage will affect parts of Makueni County, specifically the stretch from Emali to Nziu, including Mulala, Kithumani, Masokani, Kikumini, Masumba, Welfare, Matiliku, Kilili, Kalamba, Katulye, Upendo, and Nziu.

The North Rift Region will see disruptions in Nandi County, particularly in Kapkorio and adjacent areas.

In the Western Region, two areas of Kakamega County will be affected. In Bushiangala and Shikhumi, the outage will impact residents of Malinya Market, Ivono Village, Ichina, Isulu, Musoli, Shikunga, Mwikalikha, Ikhonjero, and Emaholia. Butere Town and nearby institutions like Butere Girls will also be affected, along with Eshishembu, Bubala, Shiatsala, Eshikulu, Mabole, and Mahondo.

On the coast, parts of Kilifi County, including Ndonya and Mtepeni, will be without power. Key facilities affected include KALRO Mtwapa, Ndonya Police Station, Fantasy Farm, Masisters, Mtepeni Primary School, Maji Asili, and Ndovu Tanks, among others.

In the Mt. Kenya Region, Nyeri County’s Ithenguri and Kigwandi areas will also experience outages. Affected locations include Kahigaini, Karurumo, parts of Kiunyu, and the Chief’s Area, with interruptions starting earlier at 8:00 a.m.

“We advise our customers to treat all power lines as live during this period,” Kenya Power cautioned, urging safety and patience as the utility upgrades its infrastructure.

The company apologised for any inconvenience caused and encouraged residents in the affected areas to plan accordingly. The planned works are part of Kenya Power’s ongoing efforts to modernise the grid and improve service reliability across the country.
