The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced an extension of the temporary closure of sections along the Bomas–Kiserian (B19) Road to allow for ongoing construction works.

The closure, which will now remain in effect from Monday, October 20, 2025, to Monday, December 1, 2025, is necessary to facilitate the construction of two box culverts along the route.

Motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes during the construction period:

  • Langata Road – Langata South Road – Kiboko Road – Banda Lane – Magadi Road
  • Langata Road – Langata South Road – Kiboko Road – Mukoma Road – Magadi Road (near Shell Petrol Station)

KeNHA has urged road users to adhere to the traffic diversion plan and observe all project road signs. The agency also appealed for cooperation with police and traffic marshals stationed on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety.

Thika Superhighway

This announcement comes a few weeks after KeNHA announced that a section of the Thika Superhighway will experience a temporary traffic disruption at Kihunguro, affecting both the Nairobi-bound and Thika-bound service lanes.

According to a public notice issued on Monday, October 13, 2025, the disruption will begin on Monday, October 20, 2025, and continue until Saturday, December 20, 2025.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Thika Superhighway (A2) Road at Kihunguro will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi and Thika-bound service lanes from Monday, 20th October, 2025, to Saturday, 20th December, 2025.”

The authority stated that the closure is necessary to facilitate the construction of column bases and stub columns for the upcoming Kihunguro footbridge, which will improve pedestrian safety along the busy corridor.

“This is to allow for constructions works of the Kihunguro footbridge column bases and stub columns at the section,” KeNHA added.

In the statement signed by Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli, KeNHA advised motorists to cooperate with traffic marshals and police officers who will be stationed at the site to guide movement throughout the construction period.
