The Director General of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kung’u Ndung’u, has resigned.

In an internal memo shared by the office of the government spokesperson on Friday, July 11, 2025, KeNHA, the board chairman of the national highways body, accepted Ndung’u’s resignation effective July 11, 2025.

“The board of directors hereby announces the acceptance of the resignation of Engineer Kung’u Ndung’u as the Director General of the Kenya National Highways Authority,” the statement reads in part.

Replacement unveiled

KeNHA board chairperson Winfrida Ngumi equally revealed that Luka Kimeli, who is the director representing the Principal Secretary for Roads, would take over the duties of Ndung’u.

The resignation comes just hours after the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) Director General Philemon Kandie resigned.

In a statement shared by the office of the Government Spokesperson on Friday, July 11, 2025, Kandie resigned from his position on July 17, 2025, after formally writing to the KeRRA board chairman, Anthony Ng’ang’a Mwaura.

In the letter, Kandie indicated that he would proceed with his 45-day annual leave, which ends on October 10, 2025, which will also be his last day with the authority.

“This letter serves as a formal notification of my resignation from the position of Director General at Kenya Rural Roads Authority, giving a notice of 3 months effective 11 July 2025, with my last day of employment being 10th October 2025,” the resignation letter reads.

Smooth transition

“I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition during this period and take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the Board of KeRRA for the support and incredible journey throughout my tenure. I wish everyone in the team much success in the years to come.”

In a press release dated Friday, July 11, 2025, KeRRA board chairman Mwaura Ng’anga disclosed to the public that Kandie had resigned from his role and that he had been replaced by Jackson Magondu, the current director for planning, design, and environment.

“The Board of Directors, in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Transport, wishes to inform that Engineer Jackson K. Magondu (Director – Planning, Design and Environment) has been appointed to the Office of the Director General on acting capacity with effect from Friday, 11th July, 2025,” the statement read.
