The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a public notice informing motorists of an upcoming traffic disruption on a section of the Mombasa Road-bound service lanes to facilitate the installation of the fabricated footbridge beams of the Syokimau Railway Footbridge.

In the notice released on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the authority said the temporary closure would affect a section of the busy Mombasa Road (A8) near Naivas JKIA.

The affected section will be closed from Saturday, June 14, at 9:00 pm to Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 10:00 am.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Naivas JKIA will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa-bound service lanes from Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 9.00 pm to Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 10.00 am,” KeNHA announced.

“This is to allow for the installation of the fabricated footbridge beams of the Syokimau Railway Footbridge.”

The authority also issued a detailed traffic management map and urged motorists to familiarise themselves with the plan in advance to avoid any inconvenience during the specified period to ensure a smooth diversion.

KeNHA further urged all road users to adhere to the traffic management measures, including following road signs, and to cooperate with the police and traffic marshals to ensure smooth flow of traffic and safety during the maintenance period.

“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.”

Similar closure

On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the authority announced a two-day temporary closure on the Nairobi-bound lanes of Mombasa Road (A8) near the Katani Road Junction to facilitate the final stages of installing fabricated footbridge beams.

In the notice, the authorities announced that the affected section of the highway will remain closed from Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 10:00 pm, until Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 6:00 am.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi-bound lanes from Saturday, 3rd May 2025, at 10:00 pm to Sunday, 4th May 2025, at 6:00 am,” the statement from the authority read in part.

“This is to allow for the installation of the remaining fabricated footbridge beams.”

Additionally, KeNHA appealed to all road users to cooperate with the traffic police officers and marshals who will be stationed on-site during the closure to assist with traffic management.

“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the authority reiterated.
