The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary partial closure of the Nairobi-bound carriageway along the A8 Road between FUSO (Simba Colt) and the Southern Bypass Interchange (Ole Sereni).
In a statement released on Saturday, June 28, 2025, the authority said the closure will begin on Saturday, July 5, 2025, and is expected to continue until Saturday, July 12, 2025. The move is meant to allow for essential highway maintenance work along this busy section of the road.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to notify the public of the temporary partial closure of the Nairobi-bound carriageway on A8 Road between FUSO (Simba Colt) and the Southern Bypass Interchange (Ole Sereni) from Saturday, July 5, 2025, to Saturday, July 12, 2025, to facilitate essential highway maintenance works along this section,” the statement read in part.
During the closure period, heavy vehicles with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons, as well as other motorists heading towards the Southern Bypass, will be diverted.
According to KeNHA, these vehicles will exit the main highway at the Kyang’ombe Slip Road and use Old Mombasa Road as an alternative route. Meanwhile, lighter vehicles will be allowed to use a single lane that will be provided along the affected section.
KeNHA is urging motorists to exercise caution while approaching and passing through the work zone. The highways authority is also calling on drivers to follow the traffic management plan that will be in place and to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be present at the site to guide and manage the flow of traffic.
“During this period of road closure, heavy vehicles of gross weight greater than 3.5 tons and other motorists heading to the Southern Bypass will be diverted to exit the main highway at Kyang’ombe Slip Road through Old Mombasa Road, while other vehicles will use a single lane that will be provided along the affected section,” KeNHA stated.
Adding:
“Motorists are requested to exercise caution around the work areas, follow the proposed traffic management plan herein, and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.”
