Kasmuel McOure criticizes opposition leaders for hypocrisy and betrayal of public trust

Activist Kasmuel McOure has lashed out at opposition politicians, accusing them of hypocrisy and lacking genuine concern for the Kenyan people.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, McOure criticised several opposition figures for what he termed as self-serving politics and misleading the public.
He particularly took aim at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying it was ironic for him to campaign against President William Ruto’s administration while at the same time pursuing a legal case seeking reinstatement into the same government he continues to criticise.
“We are having a person who consistently says Ruto must go in all his rallies while he has a case in court trying to reinstate him, hoping that he can be reinstated into the same government that he is castigating,” McOure said.
He also questioned the integrity of some individuals eyeing the presidency, pointing out that those who previously betrayed public trust are now branding themselves as part of a loyal opposition.
“A lot of the people who are going out to declare candidacy do not have the best interests of the people at heart. The people who sold us fake fertiliser are the people who are calling themselves loyal opposition,” he said.
McOure urged young people to become more engaged in political processes ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stressed that change would only come if citizens focused on key issues rather than personalities.
“We currently as it stands, as young people, if we do not come together—and it does not necessarily mean we have to be lumped into one vehicle—if you find the vehicle that works for you, we must find a very elaborate election issues [framework] if we want change such that it will not be pegged on an individual. Maybe I may not be the best fit for that job. If a 60-year-old will give us devolution, the war on graft, accountability, and turn the police force into a police service, then so be it,” he explained.
The big seat
McOure’s remarks come at a time when the political arena is heating up with several high-profile figures announcing their bids for the presidency.
Former Justice Minister Martha Karua is vying for the presidency under her newly launched People’s Liberation Party (PLP), aiming to unite opposition leaders and rally young voters around her progressive governance agenda. Karua, who was Raila Odinga’s running mate in 2022, is pushing for transparency, accountability, and inclusion.
Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper Democratic Movement and a former Vice President, has also confirmed his presidential bid. He has been meeting citizens across the country and positioning himself as a voice of change amid growing dissatisfaction with the current regime.
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has thrown his hat into the ring too, promising a grassroots-led, independent campaign focused on economic and social reforms. He has already assembled a team to drive his transformation agenda.
In a surprising twist, Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached after falling out with Ruto, has emerged as a potential contender. He is reportedly in talks with other opposition leaders, including Karua and Kalonzo, about forming a united front.

Other notable presidential hopefuls include Eugene Wamalwa of DAP-K, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, who now leads the Jubilee Party’s campaign, businessman Jimi Wanjigi of Safina Party, and Ekuru Aukot of the Thirdway Alliance.
Professor George Wajackoyah, known for his unique proposals like legalising cannabis, is also expected to run again. Activist Morara Kebaso of the Inject Party of Kenya has joined the race, focusing on governance and accountability.
Adding to the growing list, former Chief Justice David Maraga has declared his intention to contest the presidency. Maraga is running on a platform of zero tolerance for corruption and a promise to restore the rule of law. He has begun meeting community leaders nationwide to build support.
Youthful Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has also entered the race, presenting himself as a fresh voice for young people. He is touring the country with a message centred on youth empowerment, economic renewal, and social justice.
