Revolutionary artiste and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth League member Kasmuel McOure has condemned the killings of the youths during peaceful protests by the police.

In a statement via his official X account on Monday, July 7, 2025, McOure said that a state which takes every chance to kill its youth for demanding their rights was despicable and that it should not be tolerated.

He added that it is time to begin a national process that would bring together all stakeholders to rebuild the country and restore the dignity of the land.

“A state that takes every chance to kill its youth for demanding their rights is a despicable state, and we will not tolerate it. We have everything it takes to fix it, and fix it we shall,” McOure condemned.

“It is time to begin a national process that brings together all stakeholders to rebuild this republic and restore the dignity of our land.”

Saba Saba protest’s death

Kasmuel’s remarks come after the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that 11 people lost their lives in various parts of the country during Saba Saba protests on Monday, July 7, 2025.

In a statement issued by police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, NPS indicated that all 11 were civilians, while 11 others also sustained injuries.

According to the statement, 52 security officers were also injured while maintaining order during the Saba Saba Day commemoration.

Notably, police revealed that Manyatta Member of Parliament, Gitonga Mukunji, was arrested. NPS did not immediately reveal why he was apprehended.

“Regrettably, preliminary reports indicate fatalities, injuries, damage to motor vehicles, and several incidents of looting as detailed below. Additionally, a number of suspects have been arrested, including Gitonga Mukunji, MP for Manyatta Constituency,” the NPS statement read in part.

June 25

During the June 25, 2025, memorial protest, the Law Society of Kenya confirmed that at least eight people died and hundreds were injured.

 “The Law Society of Kenya, Police Reforms Working Group and the Kenya Medical Association express condolences to the families of the eight protesters who were killed today. At least 400 others were treated, with 83 of them referred to specialised treatment for serious injuries. At least 8 protesters have been treated for gunshot wounds. Three of the injured are police officers,” Odhiambo disclosed.
