Karua shows off sleek dance moves as she marks 68th birthday

PLP leader Martha Karua celebrated her 68th birthday on Monday, September 22, 2025, in style by taking on the viral Donjo Maber dance challenge, joining the popular dance group Thee Alfa House in a colourful and energetic performance.
The Donjo Maber challenge was born out of singer Iyanii’s collaboration with dancehall maestro Dufla Diligon, delivering a dance craze that has captured the attention of social media across Kenya.
The performance began with a pack of five dancers from Thee Alfa House, clad in black and white, executing the signature Donjo Maber steps with tight synchronisation.
The moves involved coordinated footwork, rhythmic leg twirls, and sharp, fluid arm patterns. Midway through the routine, Karua, dressed in red and grey, joined the dancers, immediately syncing with their timing.
Karua’s routine stood out for its combination of elegance and rhythm. She twirled her legs together in harmony with her hands while smoothly swirling her arms from low near the waist to high above her head.

Each movement flowed seamlessly into the next, highlighting her balance, timing, and body control.
At several points, she mirrored the dancers’ intricate patterns, matching their speed and precision, while adding her own flair to the sequence.
While sharing the dance clip, Martha Karua revealed that she still has the moves at 68 and expressed her gratitude to Thee Alfa House for making her birthday special.
She acknowledged the dance group’s role in joining her celebration and creating a memorable moment.
“Still got the moves at 68. Thank you @TheeAlfaHouse for making my day,” she said.
Dancing hobby
The dance moment came days after the leader reiterated her love for dancing, terming it as her life hobby.
Speaking during a live radio interview this Monday, February 24, 2025, Karua presented a sneak peek at her immense love for a topic she spared a mention for in her memoir, Against The Tide: My Journey on a Less Trodden Path.
Without describing the exact music genre she listens to and dances to, she revealed that she still loses herself to music.
“I’m a dancer for life’ Karua responded when quizzed on the topic of dance.
“Don’t just say that I dance sometimes. Weka mziki hata saa hii uone. I am a dancer for life. I still dance,” she added while throwing down a challenge.
Karua’s preferences
The lawyer is widely renowned for her strong political views, with little of her documented on her private life and preferences.
The run-up to the 2022 elections did, however, offer snippets of some of the Iron Lady’s likes as she joined Raila Odinga as Azimio la Umoja’s flagbearers.
Despite the unsuccessful stab for the top seat, the campaign’s travails provided a closer scope of the politician beyond her normal routines of politics.

On several occasions, Karua was seen rocking away in different parts of the country as she joined her Azimio brigade in 2022 political rallies.
Among the notable occasions was when she joined Women in Siaya for a dance after she was nominated the coalition’s presidential flagbearer.
The development was set to make the former Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister the first Woman Deputy President in the history of Kenya.
She later followed up the moment by displaying her moves at Odinga’s Thanksgiving party months later in September 2022.
The same month also saw her dance a night away while celebrating her birthday at a party in Nairobi.
