Kanja assures Muslim community of enhanced security as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr

The National Police Service (NPS) has assured Muslim faithful across the country of heightened security during the Eid al-Fitr festivities.
Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, made the announcement on Sunday, March 30, 2025, during Eid prayers held at Business Bay Square (BBS) Mall in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
IG Kanja, who was welcomed by Kamukunji Member of Parliament (MP) Yusuf Abdi Hassan, expressed his honour at joining the Muslim community for the important religious celebration. He acknowledged the significance of Eid al-Fitr, a day marked by prayer, gratitude, and compassion following the holy month of Ramadan.
“Today, Sunday, March 30, 2025, the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja, joined the Muslim faithful for Eid prayers at Business Bay Square (BBS) Mall in Eastleigh, Nairobi. He was received by the Member of Parliament for Kamukunji Constituency, Hon. Yusuf Abdi Hassan.
“In his remarks, IG Kanja expressed his honour to join the Muslim community for this important celebration. He acknowledged the significance of Eid and assured all Kenyans of their security, emphasizing that safety measures had been enhanced across the country,” a statement by NPS read in part.
While addressing the congregation, Kanja reassured all Kenyans of their safety, noting that security measures had been enhanced across the country to ensure peaceful celebrations. He revealed that the government has established additional police stations in Eastleigh to boost security and improve service delivery.
According to the IG, these newly established stations will be well-equipped and will receive vehicles to enhance mobility and efficiency.
He emphasized that ensuring security is a collective responsibility and called on the public to cooperate with the police to maintain peace and safety. The police boss urged members of the public to remain vigilant and work closely with security agencies by sharing relevant information that could help avert any threats.
The Inspector General also extended warm Eid al-Fitr wishes to the Muslim community throughout Kenya, expressing the NPS’s commitment to fostering unity, understanding, and cooperation among all religious groups.
“IG Kanja further stated that the government has increased the number of police stations in Eastleigh and assured that these stations will be well-equipped, including receiving vehicles to enhance service delivery.
Emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility, IG Kanja urged the public to work closely with the police to enhance safety for all. Finally, IG Kanja extended his warmest wishes to the Muslim community all across the country and wished them a Happy Eid,” the statement read further.

Prominent police officials who accompanied IG Kanja included National Police Service Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, Regional Police Commander Nairobi George Sedah, SOOPs Nairobi Region Charles Kases, Sub-County Police Commander Starehe Wilson Muraya, and SOB 1 Nairobi Boniface Lomuk.
