Kaluma: Maraga knows nothing about running govt

Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma has dismissed former Chief Justice David Maraga as a formidable candidate to replace President William Ruto in 2027.

This follows Maraga’s media interview on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in which Kaluma says he lacked knowledge and fluency while expressing himself.

“The … The … The …Blah … Blah … Blah … It is all fury, no knowledge! Maraga knows nothing about running a government,” Kaluma stated.

Maraga’s promise

Speaking during the interview, Maraga indicated that he will prioritise the needs of the youth once elected into the top seat.

“Last year in June, I was watching what was happening in the country, and I was troubled. On June 25, 2024, I was shocked at what I saw, just like every other Kenyan. The young people were killed for expressing themselves in the streets. Why were they going to the streets? Because nobody cares about their interests. So, when I saw that, somebody asked me whether I thought of running for a political seat, and I said no,” Maraga stated.

“I said to him that I have never been a politician, and I understand that if you need to contest for a presidential position, you need at least Ksh10 billion.”

Maraga has also decried the sorry state of the nation, saying the country is in a serious political and economic crisis.

He lamented the death toll from demonstrations in the country, which has disproportionately targeted the youthful population.

“In Kenya today, we are in a serious political and economic crisis. One that we have not seen in this country before,” Maraga said.

“Having close to 200 young people dying in less than two years is shocking. In the last two months, we have lost more than 60, and the numbers are increasing.”
