Kalonzo to Raila: Kenyans are not interested in dialogue

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has yet again rejected former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s call for intergenerational dialogue, terming it hypocritical.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Maria Salus Infirmorum Health Facility in Kiongwani, Kilome Constituency, Makueni County, on Thursday, July 17, 2025, Kalonzo said the Kenyans are not interested in the proposed dialogue, adding that the call will not address the challenges currently facing the country.
Kalonzo, in addition, asked Raila and President William Ruto to embark on resolving issues raised by Gen Z instead of dialogue, pointing out that the youth have spoken loud and clear, and it is time to act.
“My friend Raila alisema tufanye inter-generational dialogue, hawa watoto do not want dialogue, they want to get a university education and proper funding; they want to get into the highest learning institution, and those in lower grades want free primary education,” Kalonzo said.

Additionally, Kalonzo added that Kenyans are mourning, and they deserve justice.
“Kenyans are mourning; we cannot take it. We just want no dialogue with Ruto; hatutaki mazungumuzo tunataka haki chini ya katiba,” he added.
He also criticised Ruto’s recent directive to the police to shoot at the leg, stating that no president in history has ever made such remarks.
“Ruto amesema Enough is enough, na akasema watoto wapigwe risasi kwa miguu hakuna raisi mwingine even the worst dictator has been able to make that proclamation,” he added.
Raila’s call for dialogue
This comes after the former prime minister, on Monday, July 7, renewed his call for a national dialogue and the outcomes to be subjected to a referendum.
Raila proposed the dialogue, which aims at bridging the gap between the government and the Kenyan youth.
Speaking during a press briefing, Odinga proposed the immediate establishment of an intergenerational national conclave to bring together diverse voices from across the country.

“I want the outcomes of the national dialogue to be subjected to a referendum,” Odinga said.
”I propose an inclusive intergenerational national conclave to hear our people across all divides and come up with the irreducible reforms and changes necessary to take the country forward. I propose that the country urgently return to the agenda of comprehensive police reforms, focusing on enhancing accountability and transparency and improving police-to-people relations.”
