‘We are going to document every case and revisit ICC’ – Kalonzo

Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has announced plans to meticulously document every case of murder, brutality and abduction that was bestowed on innocent demonstrators during recent protests.

In a statement shared on his X account on June 28, 2024, Kalonzo pledged that he would revisit cases at the International Criminal Court (ICC). 

In addition, Kalonzo asserted that the actions were crimes against humanity, and he would represent the Kenyans who were affected in his capacity as a senior counsel.

Kalonzo challenged President William Ruto to speak against the shooting of protesters who were peacefully exercising their democratic rights during the demos.

“If I was Ruto, I would be deeply troubled. Our children, the Gen Z, peacefully came out to our streets in their hundreds of thousands to protest the socio-economic injustices perpetrated on all Kenyans by the KK dictatorship. 

“They have been murdered, brutally attacked, hijacked, and abducted. As Senior Counsel, we will document every case and revisit the International Criminal Court (ICC). These are crimes against Humanity” Kalonzo added.

At Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH)Kalonzo condoled with patients who were wounded by bullets and others with injured fingers in the wards.

Most of the patients admitted to the hospital were injured during Tuesday’s protests against the Finance Bill, 2024. Kalonzo recognized them as heroes for fighting for the country and defending the rights of many Kenyans.

Over 200 casualties were received at Kenyatta National Hospital, with two dying upon arrival. He thanked the administration for receiving and treating the casualties.

Even after President William Ruto bowed to pressure on Wednesday 26, May 2024 and declined to sign the bill into law, protests continued across various towns on Thursday.

Significant property destruction and lives were lost during the protests, which were attributed to the Kenyan police using excessive force and having a confrontation with protesters.

Similarly, the High Court on Friday, June 28, 2024,  prohibited the National Police Service (NPS) from using excessive force during protests.
