Kalonzo speaks over Gachagua arrest reports

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has warned President William Ruto against having former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua arrested.
In a statement on Sunday, May 18, 2025, moments after reports emerged that sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investgations (DCI) were looking to arrest Gachagua, Kalonzo said that they were willing to produce him before the DCI.
“This intimidation of the Opposition must stop. Mr Ruto, if you want to arrest Deputy President @rigathi, do it the right way; follow the law. We are prepared to produce DP Gachagua before the @DCI_Kenya. Please stop abducting Kenyans and their leaders. Abductions are primitive and cowardly,” Kalonzo stated.
This comes moments after Gachagua’s lawyer Ndegwa Njiru reported that officers from the DCI had taken over Gachagua’s Wamunyoro and Karen homes seeking to arrest him over unknown reasons.
“To all media houses kindly be informed that the DCI has taken hostage of all HE Rigathi Gachagua’s both at Karen and at Wamunyoro. They are currently man hunting him. We are yet to be informed of the reason,” Njiru stated.
In the last couple of days, Gachagua has been at loggerheads with top government officials, after warning President William Ruto that 2027 would be worse that 2007 if he rigged elections.
Earlier on Sunday, May 18, 2025, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen issued a stern warning against politicians inciting Kenyans to violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Sunday. May 18, 2025, after attending a church service at Nuru Africa Inland Church in Kitale, Trans-Nzoia County, Murkomen vowed to deal with leaders inciting Kenyans.
“Fellowshipped at Nuru Africa Inland Church in Kitale , Trans-Nzoia County, where I implored leaders across the country to practise politics within the confines of the law. The security sector, under our watch, will deal firmly with leaders engaging in incitement, without regard to their political stature or affiliation,” Murkomen stated.
However, Gachagua has vowed that he will not be silenced from reminding Ruto of the brutal legacy of the 2007 post-election bloodshed.
Speaking during a church service at Christ’s Joy Christian Church in Gatanga, Murang’a County, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, Gachagua stated that the memories of the 2007 violence had nearly faded from his mind, but they came rushing back after hired goons were sent to disrupt a church service he was attending in Mwiki, which he said bore chilling resemblance to the horrors of the Kiambaa church massacre.
According to Gachagua, Ruto played a central role in the chaos that erupted following the disputed 2007 presidential election results, and he (Gachagua) would continue to remind the president of that gruesome chapter to ensure that the country never finds itself in a similar crisis again.
“What has unsettled them, and why they are shouting at me, is because they do not want us to remind the public about what happened in Kiambaa Church during the 2007 post-election violence. We forgave President Ruto, but we have not forgotten. You burnt our children inside a church, and we know that is why you are uncomfortable. We had nearly moved on, but when you sent people to PCEA Mwiki Church in Kasarani to cause chaos and attempt to harm us inside God’s house, everything came flooding back,” Gachagua stated.
He went on to warn Ruto that the conversation about 2007 will only subside when he stops sending political gangs to churches and funerals, saying that such sacred spaces must never be used as platforms for intimidation or political interference.
