Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has launched yet another blistering attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of hypocrisy and tyranny over the government’s handling of recent anti-government protests.

In a strongly-worded post on his official X account Friday morning, July 18, 2025, Kalonzo criticised Ruto for blaming the opposition while ordering a violent crackdown on peaceful demonstrators.

“Ruto is accusing The United Opposition of inciting the youth, yet he’s the one who ordered police to shoot innocent protesters. Even the worst dictators never sank this low. This is tyranny!” Kalonzo wrote.

This fresh accusation comes just days after Kalonzo condemned Ruto’s now-infamous “shoot them in the legs” directive, saying no responsible head of state should endorse such force against citizens. Kalonzo has maintained that the president’s language and actions are unconstitutional and dangerous, equating them to a “shoot-to-kill” policy masked as crowd control.

“Kenyans are mourning; we cannot take it. We just want no dialogue with Ruto. Hatutaki mazungumzo, tunataka haki chini ya katiba,” Kalonzo earlier said in Makueni, doubling down on his rejection of President Ruto’s leadership approach.

Kalonzo intensifies anti-Ruto campaign

The former vice president has intensified his criticism in recent weeks, framing Ruto’s administration as one riddled with corruption, repression, and disdain for democratic values. On Sunday, July, 13, 2025, Kalonzo went as far as comparing Ruto to former Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, claiming that Kenya’s current president now “wears the crown of shame” as the world’s most corrupt leader.

Opposition parties have been rallying against Ruto’s handling of youth-led protests, sparked by public anger over the Finance Bill and growing frustration over unemployment. While Ruto and his allies have accused the opposition of fuelling unrest, Kalonzo has dismissed the claims, saying the protests are a genuine cry for justice from Kenya’s youth.

Amid the political storm, Kalonzo has called for Ruto’s resignation or impeachment, suggesting that the president has lost the confidence of the people. As the standoff between the government and the opposition escalates, Kalonzo continues to emerge as the face of resistance, positioning himself as a key contender in the next General Election.
