Former Roots Party presidential running mate Justina Wamae has announced that she is not a member of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

In a statement a few hours after Rigathi Gachagua launched the party on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in Nairobi, she stated that Kenya needs more parties for diversity and ideology.

“I am NOT a member of DCP, but I’m happy for them. The country needs even more parties for diversity in ideology,” she stated.

Gachagua unveiled his much-anticipated political outfit, saying he has spent the last 6 months at his home holding consultations to help shape his political party.

The DCP party leader said his party has been forged on the backdrop of the need to provide better leadership for Kenyans and pull them out of the long-standing problems of poor governance.

“Kenyans have boldly told us they have a solution to the problems facing them. Kenyans have asked us to start a party which will form a government by the people for the people,” he noted.

Further, he declared that the Party has no preferred candidates and will prioritise the voices of Kenyans, hence the party slogan “Skiza Wakenya”.

The party’s symbol is a hand holding an ear, symbolizing the act of listening to netizens, with its official colors being green, red, white and black.

Additionally, the former deputy president appointed former United Democratic Alliance ( UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala as the interim deputy party leader.

“The National Executive Council of the Democracy for the Citizens Party met on May 5, 2025. In accordance with Party Constitution Article 16 (2) Section 2, the following interim officials whose names have already been submitted to the register of political parties for gazettement,” Gachagua said.

Further, he has appointed David Mingati Masina(Kajiado)  as the National Chairperson, Peter Mwathi as deputy national chairperson for Strategy (Kiambu County), Sarah Owino as national deputy chairperson for operations (Kisumu), Hezeron Obanga, secretary general (Kisii), and Martin Ole Kamwaro, deputy secretary general (Narok).

He has named Annah Kavuu Mutua as the national treasurer (Machakos), Evangelline Wanjira Njoka as her deputy, Thomas Mwita as deputy national treasurer operations, Franklin Mithika Linturi as the national organising secretary, Andrew Kiplimo Muge, director of elections, Cate Waruguru, national women leader, Chairperson of the Council of Eminent Persons, Maina Kamanda as well as chairperson of the diaspora caucus David Njenga Gikonyo.

Others include; religious caucus Barnabas Kinywawa Mukethi, national coordinator for Counties, Alex Khamasi (Kakamega), executive party director Brenda Manjira (Busia), secretary of devolution and intergovernmental Decisions Christopher Mwadime Mwabingu (Taita Taveta) among others.
