Jubilee NDC: Wanjiku Kibe explains why Kenyans long for a Matiang’i presidency
Former Gatundu North Member of Parliament Wanjiku Kibe on Friday, September 26, 2025, said the majority of Kenyans want former Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i declared the Jubilee Party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the ongoing Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference at Nairobi’s Ngong Racecourse, Kibe insisted that Kenya needs a leader with a proven track record.

“Matiang’i is a Jubilee Party member, and he is attending the event as a member,” she said.
“We as Jubilee, or in my opinion, I would be happy if Matiang’i becomes the Jubilee Party flagbearer ahead of the 2027 poll. This is a person we have seen working,” She added.
Kibe added that in a country where citizens are desperate for transparency and accountability, Matiang’i stands out.
“In Kenya, where we are currently, we are in need of a leader who can bring real transformation which Kenyans can see and believe in,” she noted.

Track record under Uhuru Kenyatta
Pointing to Matiang’i’s years in government, Kibe praised his work ethic and delivery of results.
“For instance, if you are told that tomorrow the government will send capitation money to schools, tomorrow you can confirm it. That is the opposite of what we are seeing currently,” she explained.
She further stated that Matiang’i’s time in government under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta left a lasting impact.
“Fred Matiang’i’s work when he served under His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta can be seen. And I think the majority of people want it that way,” Kibe said.

Her remarks drew applause from sections of the delegates, adding fuel to speculation that Jubilee could formally endorse Matiang’i as its flagbearer during the NDC.
Political observers say if this happens, it could reshape the opposition landscape as the country heads toward the 2027 General Election.
