Joshua Okayo reassures supporters on recovery after Thursday’s protest injury

Kenya School of Law (KSL) President Joshua Okayo has broken his silence following an injury sustained during the demonstrations that were staged in Nairobi on Thursday, June 12, 2025, to protest against the killing of teacher and influencer Albert Ochieng.
Taking to his official X account on the night of Friday, June 13, 2025, Okayo offered a heartfelt update on his condition and thanked those who stood by him.
Okayo expressed deep gratitude to comrades who swiftly rushed him to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after he was injured during the protest, reportedly by a police officer.
In his statement, Okayo reassured his supporters about his full recovery, noting that his vital organs were okay after checkups and that the twitching he had experienced after being injured was a result of shock.

However, he noted that his left foot was still swollen, with his chest, head, and right ear hurting, but assured that everything else was fine.
“Comrades, Friends, Fellow Kenyans. Thank you for the love and support yesterday. The twitching was a result of shock. My left foot is swollen. My chest, head, and right ear are hurting, but everything else is fine,” Okayo stated.
He went ahead to note that he had received medical attention at KNH, with him having subsequent medical attention at a different facility on Friday, June 13.
He says he has been given a knee and ankle support as he continues to receive medical attention.
“I went to KNH yesterday and went to Westlands Medical Centre today. I’m assured all shall be well. I have the necessary medicines now. I’ve also been given a knee and ankle support. I appreciate your best wishes, thoughts, and the financial support that some of you have accorded me. May God bless you abundantly! Aluta continua,” he stated.

Thursday protests
Protests on Thursday, June 12, erupted at the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) over the murder of Albert Ojwang’, a youthful teacher who was arrested and transported to Nairobi from Homa Bay and killed.
The protesters called for the arrest of the Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, who was the complainant behind the arrest of Ojwang’ in connection with an offence of false publication.
Several roads within the CBD were occupied by the dozens of protesters, who marched the streets with minimal to no police intervention as they carried twigs and chanted in solidarity with the deceased, whose remains were moved from the Nairobi Funeral Home to Chiromo Mortuary, according to activist Hussein Khalid.
