Armed Samburu Morans on Monday night stormed a police camp in Isiolo Sub-County where they killed one police officer and wounded another before making away with a number of firearms.

K24 Digital has established that the armed Samburu Morans were in their large numbers and stormed the camp that is manned by nine police officers.

In a police report filed at Isiolo Police Station, the two officers who were cornered by the morans were identified as Francis Njeru and Correl Boaz Omondi.

Njeru was fatally shot with three visible gunshot wounds at the collarbone exiting at the forehead while Omondi was also injured in the process.

“The team established that the camp which is manned by nine police officers under in charge Andrew Mwaura was attacked by a large number of suspected Samburu morans,” the report read in part, adding that the incident took place at 7:20pm.

Omondi informed his colleagues, who were not at the scene when the incident happened, that he had gone to a nearby school compound to make a call using their Wifi.

The attackers made away with the officers’ firearms and foodstuffs.

The serial number of stolen firearms were identified as; G3 6740750 with 40 rounds under the care of the late Njeru and a G3 6740723 under the care of Police Constable Vincent Kipkorir Lang’at.

However, at the time of the deadly incident, Lang’at had left his firearm under the care of the deceased and left for Isiolo town.

Police said they also recovered A G3 magazine and 20 rounds of ammunition, three spent cartridges of 7.62 and a mobile phone that belongs to the deceased.

Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Isiolo processed the scene.

The body of the late Njeru was taken to Isiolo County Referral Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
