Irungu Houghton: We must bring Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi home

Amnesty International Kenya Executive Director Irungu Houghton has called for intensified efforts to secure the safe return of two Kenyan nationals, Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi, who were abducted in Kampala nearly a month ago.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Monday, October 28, 2025, Houghton said the human rights community has deliberately heightened public pressure around the case to compel action from authorities in both Kenya and Uganda.

“We deliberately chose to escalate the sense of urgency around their case. It’s been 26 days since they were picked up in broad daylight,” he said.
Houghton urged Kenyans to continue speaking out and demanding accountability, saying public attention is crucial in ensuring the safe recovery of the two men.
“I am asking Kenyans to continue sending their emails and concerns because we have to bring them home,” he emphasized.

Omtatah
This comes moments after Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah called on Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to ensure the immediate release of two missing Kenyan citizens, Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi, who were abducted on Ugandan soil by individuals linked to the country’s security agencies.
In a statement on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Omtatah described their disappearance as a grave violation of human rights and international law, condemning the continued silence and lack of accountability from Ugandan authorities.
“The enforced disappearance of Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi, both Kenyan citizens, following their abduction on Ugandan soil by elements linked to the Ugandan security apparatus, is a grave violation of human rights and international law,” he said.
According to official records from the High Court of Uganda dated October 2025, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have denied holding the two men in their custody. Their whereabouts remain unknown, raising serious concerns over their safety.
“I call upon President @KagutaMuseveni and the Government of Uganda to locate and release Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi without delay. Kenya stands firm and united in defending the rights and dignity of its citizens everywhere,” Omtatah stated.
He further urged both the Governments of Kenya and Uganda, the East African Community (EAC), and international human rights organizations to intervene, investigate, and secure the duo’s safe return.
