Houses engulfed in flames as fire hits Tassia Estate in Nairobi

A devastating fire has erupted at Tassia Estate in Embakasi East, Nairobi County, leaving several homes alight and sending residents fleeing in panic.

The blaze, which broke out on the evening of Tuesday, August 26, 2025, has quickly spread across multiple residential structures, with thick smoke billowing high into the sky.

The Kenya Red Cross confirmed the incident on their X account, announcing that emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the area.

In their statement, the humanitarian agency noted that responders were en route to contain the flames and assist affected families.

“A fire has been reported at Tassia Estate in Nairobi County. Response teams are currently on their way to the scene,” Red Cross wrote on X.

In a video shared on Facebook by user @kenyagossipclub, residents could be seen fleeing while others scrambled to evacuate their homes and salvage essential belongings.

The video also showed houses completely consumed by fire, with dense clouds of smoke filling the air and streets littered with debris.

A fire engine could be seen parked close to the scene, with firefighters actively assessing the situation and preparing their equipment to battle the flames.

The fire continued raging through several houses, sending thick smoke into the air, while more residents gathered nearby, frantically trying to help contain it and protect their neighbours’ homes.

The video also captured people hurriedly removing beer crates from a nearby bar, as panic spread among residents fearing the fire could engulf even larger sections of the estate.

The exact number of affected households remains unclear as firefighting efforts continue.

The National Police Service also has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident as response efforts continue.

Similar incident

This fire comes just weeks after another major blaze at Embakasi Girls High School in Mukuru, Nairobi County, which severely damaged one of the dormitories and disrupted learning for hundreds of students.

At that time, the Red Cross reported three injuries and launched an investigation into the incident.

“Fire at Embakasi Girls’ School, Nairobi County. Efforts to contain it are underway,” Red Cross said in a statement posted on their X account at the time.

“As investigations into the cause of the blaze continue, the school community is grappling with the shock and disruption caused by the incident. The fire has not only damaged infrastructure but has also disrupted the learning environment for hundreds of students.” Red Cross added.
