Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has taken a swipe at Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, declaring that his political time is up and urging residents of Western Kenya to demand better leadership.

Speaking in a TV interview on Thursday, August 21, 2025, Havi dismissed Mudavadi’s claim that African presidents typically serve 10 years, questioning the logic behind it and urging the people not to accept what he described as “nonsense.”

“Which Africa is he talking about? Is Zambia not Africa? Is Ghana not Africa? Let’s not clap for his statements when he says such things. Instead, stand up and send him home,” Havi stated firmly.

He further called on voters in Vihiga, Kakamega, Maragoli, and Trans Nzoia to reject what he described as recycled leadership, stressing that the region deserved a fresh start.

Calls for accountability through the ballot

In his remarks, Havi insisted that Kenyans must not shy away from demanding accountability through the ballot. He pointed out that while leaders at the highest levels of government had failed, the people still had the power to enforce change.

“The head of the Executive has failed, the head of the Judiciary has failed, and the two heads of the Legislature have failed. But we shouldn’t lose hope, because we’ve shown how this matter can be resolved through the ballot,” he noted.

Havi also warned of attempts to interfere with elections, claiming that there were plans to manipulate outcomes. He nonetheless urged Kenyans to counter such schemes by turning out in large numbers during voting.

“Of course, they want to steal the elections; it’s as clear as daylight. But before then, let the numbers be enormous: 15 million turn out,” he urged.

The outspoken lawyer’s remarks are likely to stir debate within Western Kenya politics, a region that has historically rallied around Mudavadi as a senior political figure. By directly targeting the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Havi signaled a push for generational change and a rejection of what he termed as complacent leadership.

As the country edges closer to another political season, his rallying call adds to the growing voices pressing for transparency and leadership renewal.
