Harambee Stars players amass more millions after Ruto and Raila keep their word

President William Ruto has honoured his promise of Ksh2.5 million in cash rewards for Harambee Stars players following their 1-0 triumph over Zambia on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed confirmed the fulfilment of the pledge on Monday, August 18, 2025.
KSh3 Million windfall
Mohammed also disclosed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga delivered on his commitment to reward the Harambee Stars players with Ksh500,000 each.
“Earlier today, I joined Sports CS Waziri_Mvurya and PS Elijah Mwangi in fulfilling the promise made by H.E. President @WilliamsRuto and Rt. Hon. @RailaOdinga, the former Prime Minister, to @Harambee__Stars players,” he stated.

This brought each player’s total earnings from the clash to Ksh3 million, adding to the financial rewards they have steadily amassed throughout CHAN 2024.
Earlier incentives included payouts following Kenya’s opening wins against DR Congo and Angola, reflecting a pattern of rewarding excellence and consistency on the pitch.
Eyes on Quarterfinals
Looking ahead, the FKF president emphasised that the spotlight now shifts to the quarterfinals. “Wamecheza kama wao and the boys have now vowed to cheza kama wao, this Friday in the quarterfinal against Madagascar! A big thank you to the Head of State and the Government of Kenya, especially the Ministry of Sports, for their continued support to @Football_Kenya and Kenyan football,” Hussein said.

With already Ksh5 million in total in the bag, they have everything to put their best foot forward after President Ruto earlier pledged that each player will receive Ksh 1 million and a two-bedroom house under the Affordable Housing Programme if they win the quarterfinal.
Should they reach the finals, the houses will be upgraded to three-bedroom units, while a grand prize of Ksh600 million awaits if the team lifts the trophy.
With the incentives confirmed, attention now shifts to Friday’s decisive clash at Kasarani, where Stars will look to extend their fairy-tale run and continue making history on the continental stage when they face Madagascar in the quarterfinals.
