By Hirum Muli,

Gusii Stadium has been renamed Simeon Nyachae Stadium, Kisii, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced on Monday, February 15.

Speaking during the burial ceremony of the former Cabinet Minister, who also served as a Provincial Commissioner, President Kenyatta said he had approved Sh150 million for the completion of the stadium by end of this year.

The re-naming of the stadium, the Head of State said, is in honour of Nyachae’s memory and excellent public service which stretched three regimes beginning with that of the founding president, the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

Further, Kenyatta also promised the upgrading of Nyanturago Stadium into a sports academy to help Kisii realise their sporting potential.
