Emotions ran high outside the Kenya National Hospital (KNH) when a grandmother interrupted Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka during a press conference.

A distraught Zahara Wanjiru emotionally asked about her 21-year-old grandson, Ismael Kamau’s whereabouts as he has been missing since Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

Just a minute please, I am begging you, nimetafuta kila mahali Si mgonjwa nimeleta, I want to know, where is my grandson?

Hustler fund ndio tunalipa? I want my grandson or I’ll walk to the statehouse. Afadhali mngeniua mimi. I don’t know where he is, kutoka wakati huo Githurai. What are you guys telling me, ……I want my grandson” an emotional Wanjiru said.

According to the distressed woman, Kamau went missing after the Githurai mass shootings that occurred shortly after anti-Finance Bill 2024 protesters ended demos.

She also reveals that efforts to find the young man have bore no fruit as he is missing from mortuaries and hospitals.

Wanjiru has since appealed to the press and members of the public to inform her of the whereabouts of Kamau.

Kalonzo emotionally empathised with the lady and condemned Kenya Kwanza’s move to deploy armed officers on civilians protesting against their regime.

See how spontaneous, anatafuta mjukuu wake kutoka Githurai, how many others are crying like that? So the police…I don’t know how I can continue with this expressive emotion…emotion in the heart and the mind of Kenyans. It is possible for people who have negative energy to think we may have asked that mama ama shosho akuje alie hapa, we didn’t even know,” he said.

According to the Human Rights Commission, at least 30 people were shot dead in Nairobi’s Githurai area and 100 others were injured after police fired at residents on the night of Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

Various bodies have come out to condemn the violence meted on the residents and called on relevant authorities to act swiftly and ensure those involved are brought to book.

“I dare ask, is Githurai a protected area? Is it an area where members of the public should not stay? Why was there a massacre where people were living peacefully? We demand answers,” Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo said on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
