Govt releases Ksh4.6B for Inua Jamii beneficiaries
By Aloys Michael, August 7, 2025The government has disbursed Ksh4.6 billion to support over 1.1 million Kenyans enrolled in the Inua Jamii Programme for June and July 2025.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, in a statement on Thursday, August 7, 2025, announced that the funds were released through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs.
According to the ministry, the disbursement amounting to Ksh4,607,668,000 will benefit a total of 1,151,917 older persons and individuals with severe disabilities.
Each beneficiary is set to receive Ksh4,000, which covers two months of stipends: Ksh2,000 for June and another Ksh2,000 for July 2025.
“Payments commenced today,” the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, Joseph Motari, said.
Motari explained that the June cycle payment had been delayed due to a data cleanup exercise. It apologised to beneficiaries for the inconvenience caused by the delay.

The Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme is part of the government’s broader strategy to reduce poverty and promote the welfare of vulnerable groups.
The programme targets older persons aged 70 and above, orphans and vulnerable children, as well as persons with severe disabilities.
“The Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme aims to alleviate poverty and promote the well-being of society’s most vulnerable members,” he said.
As part of its efforts to expand universal health coverage, the Ministry urged all Inua Jamii beneficiaries to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA).
This move, it said, would help them access affordable and quality healthcare services.
The disbursement comes amid increased government focus on social protection programmes to cushion the most vulnerable citizens from economic hardship.
June disbursement
In June 2025, the government released Ksh3.5 billion for payment to 1,759,656 beneficiaries enrolled in the Inua Jamii Programme.
The State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs noted that payment has commenced, with each beneficiary set to receive Ksh2,000 covering the month of May 2025.
“The Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme remains a cornerstone of the government’s social protection strategy,” Principal Secretary Joseph Motari said in a statement.
He said the government is transitioning Inua Jamii payments from bank accounts to M-Pesa agents via the E-Citizen to enhance service delivery.
The PS emphasised the move was necessary to make the payments closer, easier and faster through the wide network of M-Pesa agents.
