Gov’t defends equal development amid claims Mt Kenya is being neglected
The Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, has refuted claims that the government has sidelined the Mt. Kenya region in its development agenda.
This comes as a section of leaders from the region have scoffed at President William Ruto for sidelining them after the ouster of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of shifting focus in the broad-based areas.

Speaking on Sunday, September 28, 2025, during a service at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Mweiga, Kieni Constituency, Koskei emphasised that no part of the country has been neglected, and all regions are receiving equitable attention from the government.
“There is no truth in the claims that this region has been forgotten. The people of Mt. Kenya contributed significantly to the formation of this government, and development is being implemented equally across the country,” Koskei said.
He reiterated that the region played a crucial role in the formation of the current administration and, therefore, cannot be left behind in national development.

Koskei’s sentiments come amid TIFA reports that the broad-based government has the highest opposition in Mt Kenya at 83 per cent; only 11 per cent of Kenyans support the broad-based government in Mt Kenya, while 6 per cent have no opinion about it.

Tifa says the opposition in the larger Mt Kenya region was fuelled by Gachagua’s ouster from the government.
The survey’s respondents argued that the ODM leader Raila Odinga will support Ruto come 2027, a move critics argue is fuelled by the amount of developments and resources allocations they have received since the UDA-ODM pact, even as Ruto insists on development across the country.
Koskei, who was accompanied by eight Principal Secretaries, including PS for Energy Alex Wachira, PS for gender Ann Wang’ombe, and PS for Interior Raymond Omollo, dismissed the narrative that the Mt. Kenya region has been abandoned, terming it baseless and misleading.
Echoing his sentiments, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the government remains committed to delivering services fairly across all counties. He assured that no region would be excluded from national development programs.
“All parts of this country are receiving the same level of government services. No region will be left behind,” Omollo stated.
