Principal Secretary in the State Department of Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Kathure Njogu, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, asked interested Kenyans to apply for job opportunities in the Caribbean.

In a statement, Njogu noted that those with requisite qualifications and credentials in engineering, statistics, agriculture, and energy should take advantage of the opportunities.

She noted that the application will only be handled by Diaspora Placement Agency (DPA), the government of Kenya’s placement service for foreign jobs.

The PS made it clear that applicants would not be charged application fees.

“Opportunities in the Caribbean in engineering, statistics, agriculture, and energy,” the statement read in part.

“The Diaspora Placement Agency (DPA) is the government of Kenya placement service for foreign jobs, the sole authorised agency for these opportunities, and does NOT CHARGE any recruitment fees,” she insisted.

Degree holders

In a poster shared by the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, only degree holders would be considered for the opportunities in engineering, statistics, agriculture, and energy.

While warning applicants against falling victim to fake agents, the state department indicated that the deadline for applications was May 30, 2025.

Applicants will be required to submit their CVs, their degree certificates, and passport biodata.

Mutua under pressure

The latest advertisement comes at the backdrop of the piling pressure on Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua to resign. The calls were led by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale over what he termed as fake job opportunities abroad.

Speaking on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Khalwale called for Mutua to step aside to allow for an impartial and credible investigation into the alleged scam.

“On behalf of the youth who were conned with fake jobs abroad, I demand that Labour CS Alfred Mutua step down to pave the way for credible investigations into the scam,” he said.

Mutua had earlier dismissed the reports, insisting that victims were duped by fake agents.

“These people who have been conned are not part of the government processes. Those are people who are being taken advantage of by people who are conning Kenyans because of desperation,” said CS Mutua.

“So you’re offered a job, be patient. If you feel you don’t want to go, just come and say, ‘I don’t want to go, give me back my money.’ If someone does not give you back your money, come to me — we’ll make sure we give you back. But this story that ‘my life is ruined, I was offered a job, I have not travelled’ — no. You were offered a job, but you haven’t travelled yet. I don’t buy that excuse that life is ruined because of that,” Mutua added while asking applicants to exercise patience.
