Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir has confirmed that a fire that broke out at the Mombasa Water Supply and Sanitation Company (MOWASSCO) offices in the city’s Central Business District has been fully contained, with no casualties reported.

In a statement issued on Sunday, May 11, 2025, Nassir attributed the quick containment of the inferno to a coordinated emergency response involving County Emergency Teams, the Kenya Navy, and the Kenya Ports Authority.

“Thanks to the swift response of our County Emergency Teams, backed by crucial support from the Kenya Navy and Kenya Ports Authority, the fire has been fully contained,” Nassir stated.

“Three county fire engines were on site and effectively supported by our national partners to preserve life and property,” he added.

“We are grateful that there were no casualties. The County Government reassures residents that service continuity is assured. All critical data is securely backed up on cloud-based systems, and this unfortunate incident will not disrupt the delivery of services,” he said.

The Governor noted that senior officials, including County Secretary Jeizan Faruk, Chief Officers Swaleh Mwalizuma, Eng. Ali Abdulrahman, Eng. Albert Keno and MOWASSCO Managing Director Farah Abdirahim were on-site to oversee the emergency response.
