Governor Guyo dismisses ODPP arrest order, calls it a political witch-hunt
Isiolo Governor Ibrahim Abdi Hassan Guyo has dismissed the directive by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) calling for his arrest, terming it a political witch-hunt meant to tarnish his reputation.
In a statement posted on his X account on Friday, September 5, 2025, Guyo responded to the ODPP’s directive linking him and seven others to kidnapping and robbery with violence as baseless, politically motivated, and clearly intended to intimidate and silence him.
“I wish to make it clear that these [reports] are baseless, politically motivated, and clearly intended to intimidate and silence us,” Guyo stated.
“I firmly state that throughout my life, both before and during my time in politics, I have never been arrested nor associated with any criminal activity. Having been raised as an orphan, I have always conducted myself with dignity, respect for the rule of law, and dedication to serving the people of Isiolo,” he added.
Smear campaign
The governor argued that the move is part of a smear campaign against him, asserting that the accusations are frivolous, speculative, and deliberately designed to tarnish his reputation as the Governor of Isiolo.
“The allegations made against me are frivolous, speculative, and deliberately designed to tarnish my reputation as the Governor of Isiolo,” Guyo noted.
Guyo further noted that on August 27, 2025, the Kiambu Law Courts had already issued an anticipatory order restraining the ODPP and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) from arresting or harassing him and his colleagues until the matter is heard and determined.
He called on Isiolo residents and his supporters to remain calm, assuring them that he remained focused on his duties.
“I remain fully committed to discharging my mandate as your Governor, upholding justice and truth, and safeguarding the will of the people. No smear campaign will derail our collective progress,” he declared.
ODPP’s directive
Guyo’s response comes shortly after the ODPP announced that he and seven other individuals are set to be arrested and arraigned on serious criminal charges.

According to the ODPP statement posted on X on Friday, September 5, 2025, the case stems from an incident that occurred on June 19, 2025, in Maanzoni, Machakos County.
“Based on the presented evidence, the DPP has directed the DCI to apprehend and arraign all the above suspects to face charges of Kidnapping with Intent to Cause Grievous Harm and Robbery with Violence,” the statement read.
