A 7-year-old girl is recovering in a Kisumu hospital after being defiled by her two relatives at Emmutsa, Luanda Sub County in Vihiga County.
Confirming the incident, Luanda Sub County Children Officer Lavender Busungu said that the incident occurred after her parents left her at home to attend a wedding on Saturday.
She said that with the help of a neighbour who came to the rescue of the girl, one culprit aged 14 was arrested and his 19-year-old accomplice is still at large.
Ms. Busungu urged the public to provide information which will help security agents to arrest the culprit.
The children’s office raised the alarm over rampant defilement cases in Emmutsa.
“It is disturbing that most of these acts are carried out by close family members to victims. It is high time all stakeholders need to come in and help us bring an end to these,” she urged.
Elsewhere, two family members were killed by an armed gang at Itenji Village, in Vihiga Sub County on Sunday night.
Confirming the incident, Itenji Deputy Police boss Zacharia Wafula said the deceased Nelson Kehenji, 27, was brutally murdered together with his wife when the gang raided their home.
Mr. Wafula revealed that the gang managed to escape with some livestock after the heinous act, adding that police have begun investigations.
“Security agents are trailing an organized criminal gang which we believe is responsible for the activities being witnessed. We are urging any member of the public with relevant details which will help in arresting the culprits to come out and report to us,” he said.
