KRU enters search for youthful tacticians in Vihiga
The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has announced a new opportunity for young, qualified individuals interested in sports development after opening applications for coaching positions under its Pass It Back rugby and life skills program in North Maragoli Ward, Vihiga County.
The federation is seeking seven part-time coaches, three men and four women, who will begin work in March 2026 as part of the initiative aimed at empowering young people through sport and mentorship.

According to the rugby governing body, the opportunity is open to applicants aged between 18 and 25 years, with no prior coaching experience required. The program is designed to equip young people with coaching skills while also promoting life lessons such as teamwork, discipline, and leadership among children in the community.
Working with children
Interested applicants must, however, demonstrate a strong interest in working with children and be willing to undergo a five-day coaching training course scheduled for Sunday, March 22 to Thursday, March 26 before beginning their roles.
Successful candidates will be tasked with delivering 90-minute rugby and life skills training sessions, with each season comprising between 12 and 16 sessions and a competition. The role will be part-time, requiring at least nine hours of work per week, with remuneration determined by the number of teams coached.
Coaches will also participate in monthly meetings and periodic training sessions aimed at improving their rugby knowledge and mentorship skills.
The Pass It Back initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Kenya Rugby Union to expand grassroots rugby development while empowering youth through sport-based education.

Applications remain open until Friday, March 13, 2026, and interested candidates can apply through the online platform or contact the program organisers via phone or WhatsApp.
Through the initiative, the federation hopes to nurture the next generation of rugby coaches while using sport as a tool for community development and positive social change.
