The Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti has received a major boost after the government of Germany donated 1,000 Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs) to enhance the effectiveness of ongoing security operations.

In a statement on Monday, March 24, 2025, MSS Force Commander Godfrey Otunge said that the donation is intended to strengthen ongoing security operations by equipping officers with essential medical supplies to handle injuries effectively in the field.

Otunge noted that the high-quality, advanced IFAKs are designed to increase the survival chances of injured MSSM officers and ensure they receive timely and effective first aid during critical missions.

In addition, Commander Otunge emphasised that MSSM officers have undergone extensive training in the use of IFAKs for individual medical care and buddy aid.

He noted that the training significantly enhances their ability to provide immediate medical attention to injured colleagues, reinforcing teamwork and operational efficiency.

“The donation serves as a significant morale booster for the courageous officers whose dedication and determination remain unwavering in their mission to restore peace in Haiti,” MSS Force Commander Otunge’s statement reads.

As security operations progress, Commander Otunge stressed that the role of IFAKs in saving lives is crucial, highlighting their significance in ensuring timely medical intervention for injured officers.

He urged stakeholders to contribute towards the establishment and operationalisation of Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) to further support the security mission in Haiti, adding that bases will help bring security services closer to the people, ensuring their safety and stability in the region.

The MSS leadership extends its sincere gratitude to the German government for its invaluable support, stating that the contribution underscores the importance of international partnerships in fostering security and stability in conflict-affected areas.

“As this decisive phase of operations continues, the importance of IFAKs cannot be overstated. We urge key stakeholders to further support the MSSM, particularly in the establishment and operationalisation of Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), which will bring security services closer to the people and enhance their safety,” Otunge stated.

Donations

On Monday, February 10, 2025, the US government donated 600 firearms, nine Toyota and Ford vehicles, two trucks, two armoured loaders, and other heavy equipment to facilitate the fight against gangs.

In a statement, MSS Force Commander Godfrey Otunge said that the donation emphasises the U.S. commitment to support the mission.

“Sustaining the momentum, the fight against gangs received a major boost on Monday, February 10, 2025, when the U.S. State Department, through the INL, donated crucial equipment to the HNP,” MSS Force Commander Godfrey Otunge’s statement reads.

“This donation underscores the United States’ continued commitment to supporting both the HNP and MSS, enhancing their operational capacity to combat gangs and restore peace in Haiti.”
