Gachagua’s DCP slams Ruto for trying to poach Kalonzo

The Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Party has slammed President William Ruto over what it terms as a desperate plot to lure Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka into a political alliance ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Kalonzo has, in many instances, dismissed any possible alliance with the UDA boss, saying he won’t enter into a “blood-based government.”

In an X post on Sunday, September 21, 2025, the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua-led faction accused Ruto of deploying unconventional tactics to woo Kalonzo, the Ukambani political bigwig, to suppress the United Opposition.

“That William Ruto is poaching Kalonzo day and night using men of cloth, local politicians, medicine men and rain makers. It should be remembered that Ruto defeated Raila by just 200,000 votes,” the statement read in part.

Gachagua had earlier accused Ruto of plotting to split the opposition.

The party said the president’s narrow 2022 victory over Raila Odinga by just 200,000 votes had left him politically shaken.

“He must be very worried to know he lost Mt. Kenya, and Raila also lost Ukambani,” the statement read.

Gachagua dismissed the ruling United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) public posture as fake confidence, warning that the ground across the country remains hostile to Ruto’s administration.

“What we see from UDA is fake confidence. The ground is very hostile, the reason they are using money,” he said.

In a final jab, DCP vowed that the public would not be fooled by what they see as political theatrics.

“The loading won’t work. The people are watching. Wantam loading,” the post read.

The opposition allies have, however, warned the Wiper boss from involving with Ruto saying the move will alienate the electorates.

Led by Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi, argued that several politicians have historically aligned themselves with Kalonzo for personal political gain, only to abandon the region’s development agenda once elected.

“Leaders hide behind Kalonzo when they are seeking elective positions. But once they get into office, they forget about working for the people and focus on selfish interests,” he said during a church service at Calvary Christian Church in Mutituni, Machakos County.

Mwangagi urged the Wiper leader not to impose leaders who lack popular support in the region.

“Party leader, when you see people do not want a particular person, do not force those characters on them. Just let them be,” he emphasised.
