Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has turned to TikTok in a recent move to engage with Kenyans on recent happenings in the country.
In a TikTok live hosted by Kuira wa Kabiru on Thursday, January 23, 2025, Rigathi joined and started to interact with Kenyans who joined the session, inviting them to ask questions.
“I want to say Good morning to those of us who are here in Kenya, I am very delighted to get this opportunity to engage with Kenyans all over the world to discuss our country, our motherland, and our country that we love and cherish. We have no other country other than this one. It is very critical that we get an opportunity from time to time to engage citizens about their country, their lives and their future because continuous engagement is a good practice all over the world. I’m looking forward to this discussion and I’ll be able to take questions on any topic,” Gachagua said at the beginning of the session.
He assured Kenyans of his commitment to provide candid responses to their concerns, sharing his insights on the issues affecting the nation.
“In a very truthful manner, I’ll give you a candid response of what is my insight and my thinking and again discuss the state of our nation, where we are as a country, what is going on in our country and what we think you people in the diaspora can do better to improve the lives of our people,” Gachagua said.
During the session, Gachagua addressed various topics, including the political situation in the Mount Kenya region, the youth-led (Gen Z) protests, and recent comments made by close allies of President William Ruto about him.
The live session, which lasted about three hours, was attended by over seven thousand individuals on TikTok, marking a significant digital engagement platform for the former Deputy President.
The live was hosted by Kenyans living in the diaspora.
Gachagua’s stance
In recent weeks, Gachagua has been vocal about his political views.
During a church service on January 19, 2025, he declared his intention to ensure that President William Ruto loses the upcoming 2027 general election.
In his address, he accused Ruto of being a “pathological liar” and claimed the President had “misused” the Mount Kenya region after gaining their electoral backing.
“He misused us and after he clinched the victory he dumped us. I own up to my mistake of misleading the Kenyans to believe that Ruto was a good person but we are better off because if have known him early. In 2027 if he returns to power it will be worse,” Gachagua said.
The former DP emphasized that he is now dedicated to ensuring that past mistakes are not repeated, mentioning that the Mount Kenya community has many supportive allies as long as they remain united.
Gachagua indicated that he has been gathering opinions and plans to provide direction by the end of the month.
He insisted that he has not endorsed any candidates from the politicians who have visited him at his Wamunyoro home, despite media claims suggesting otherwise.
“By the end of the month I will give a full report,” he promised.
