Gachagua declares Kalonzo not available to Ruto in 2027

In a dramatic show of unity and defiance, the United Opposition kicked off its Ukambani tour with a bold declaration from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua: Kalonzo Musyoka is not available to President Ruto — not now, not ever.
Addressing crowds in Masii, Wamunyu, and Kyua in Machakos County before heading to Kitui, Gachagua warned the President to stop sending emissaries to woo Kalonzo, stating that as the “family spokesman,” he speaks on behalf of the entire opposition bloc.
“Kalonzo is not available for Kenya Kwanza,” he said, adding that the region’s target of 4.5 million votes would be the key to ending Ruto’s presidency in 2027.
The opposition leaders rallied youth to register as voters, calling it the ultimate weapon for change. Gachagua emphasised that voter registration is the “only secret to winning,” and that the voice of Mwananchi Mashinani was clear: one term for Ruto.
The tour, which included stops in Mwala, Katangi, and Kabati, featured fiery speeches from Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, Justin Muturi, and Wavinya Ndeti, all reinforcing the message of unity and resistance.

Criticise Ruto’s administration
Muturi accused the Kenya Kwanza government of “shooting the legs of youth, killing education, looting public coffers,” and warned Ruto to prepare for court battles post-2027. Wamalwa condemned the regime for the deaths of over 200 Gen Zs, including Rex Masai, and vowed they would not allow Kalonzo to be co-opted.
Karua declared the opposition “twins that cannot be separated,” while Wavinya assured the principals that Kambas are united behind Kalonzo, promising 4 million registered votes before the next election.
Eugene Wamalwa called on the Kamba community to release Kalonzo to help build a strong United Opposition. He urged parents to ensure all eligible youth register as voters. On the issue of the Kitui public holiday, Wamalwa condemned attempts by Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to woo Kalonzo, citing the deaths of over 200 Gen Zs, including Rex Masai, since Kenya Kwanza took power.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti declared that the Kamba community was solidly behind Kalonzo and had released him to work with like-minded leaders. She assured the opposition principals of full support and projected 4 million registered votes before 2027.

Mithika Linturi added his voice, stating “enough is enough,” and that Ruto had looted enough and should now exit.
Senator Enock Wambua emphasised that the Kamba people would not be deceived, declaring Ruto a one-term president.
Senator John Methu cautioned Mwala residents not to be misled by their MP Vincent Musyoka, reiterating that Ruto’s time was limited.
The tour marks a strategic escalation in the opposition’s campaign, with Ukambani emerging as a critical battleground in the race to unseat Kenya Kwanza.
