Police in Meru have launched a manhunt for a prison warder who is alleged to be out on a mission to kill his wife.

It is reported that Edwin Omuse stationed at Kangeta GK Prisons was on Wednesday in the early mornings spotted around Kangeta business centre with a G3 rifle hidden in a sack.

Omuse had been issued with a loaded G3 rifle in line with his duty.

According to a police report, Omuse is alleged to have been heard saying that he was headed to Thika to kill his wife who allegedly defrauded him money.

The matter was reported by one, Benjamin Ndunda who informed the duty officer Caroline Wamboi about the rogue police officer via phone.

“The said officer was today at around 1300hrs issued with G3 rifle loaded with twenty rounds of live ammunition. He was heard saying that he was heading to Thika to kill his wife who defrauded him cash amounting to ksh900,000 which he had acquired from a bank loan,” the police report read in parts.

The police alongside other prison warders have since been dispatched to trace the officer.
