Political commentator and Commissioner of the People’s Restorative Justice Commission (PRJC) Fred Ogola has brushed off ODM leader Raila Odinga’s ambitions in the 2027 presidential race, saying he is playing mind games with Kenyans.

In an interview on a local TV station on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Ogola argued that Raila is unlikely to solve the country’s economic bane.

“The big question is: Will Raila be able to solve Kenya’s problems? No. Because Kenya’s problem is economic, and he is part of the national crisis,” he stated.

Ogola, a political activist, maintained that even if the ODM leader forms a government, it would be ineffective, saying that Raila has nothing substantial to offer Kenyans.

“Raila knows very well that he has no chance of winning the presidency; he is just playing mind games with the people,” Ogola asserted.

He predicted that there is a 98 per cent chance that Raila will back Ruto in 2027 to build an alliance against the United Opposition, who are buckling up and tightening their troops for the contest.

Political plan

While Ogola argues that Raila will back up the UDA leader in 2027, ODM has maintained that the broad-based pact lasts up to 2027 and that it will field a candidate.

It is, however, not clear if the candidate will vie for or support Ruto’s reelection, but ODM allies have been ramping up support for the Head of State, who faces heavy scrutiny from rights group organisations and opposition over human rights violations, lack of accountability in corruption and inefficiency in government.

“I have not said that I am running, and in my view, we are in 2025, and it is too early for anybody to talk about 2027. We are supporting this government up to 2027. We did not say that we are going to work with UDA beyond 2027; those are issues that we will discuss at an appropriate time,” Raila stated.

While the honcho remains non-committal on his plans for the 2027 polls, he states that his options are open to run, support another candidate, or engage in post-2027 talks with Ruto.

“I don’t have to run for presidency; I can support somebody else, but I can also run if I want to run. I have not made a decision because I don’t think it is time to make a decision,” he said.
